56k Connectivity
Compatibility / interoperability issues with V.90, K56flex, and X2Network Tallahassee's 56k modems support the ITU-T V.90 56k Modem Standard.Although K56Flex may work when dialing into us, we do not support it because V.90 is the actual standard. K56Flex was developed by Lucent Technologies, Inc. and Rockwell Semiconductor Systems, Inc. (now Conexant Systems, Inc.) X2 was developed by USRobotics, Inc. TroubleshootingNote: Network Tallahassee cannot guarantee connection speeds advertised by modem manufacturers. Your connection speeds are highly dependent on your modem's quality, firmware version, and the phoneline conditions between your modem and the phone company. Generally speaking, the further away you are from the phone company, the lower the line-quality. As a general rule, in order to be able to obtain 56k modulation, the maximum wiring distance between the user and the phone company is up to about 18,000 feet, however there ARE exceptions to this.56k connectivity cannot occur under certain phoneline routing schemes (between the user and the phone company).
The most common problems associated with 56k connections can almost always be remedied by
upgrading your modem's firmware to the latest version of V.90. Keep in mind that eventhough
you may have just bought your modem/computer, that does not necessarily mean that the modem is up-to-date. Finding the version of V.90, K56flex, or X2 in your modemWindows 2000/XP:
