What is VoIP
VoIP = Voice over Internet Protocol (sometimes called IP telephony, digital voice, etc.). VoIP enables phone calls to be placed across the internet rather than depending on mobile phones or the public switched telephone network (PSTN) associated with land-lines. When using an analog telephone adapter (ATA), a regular phone (normally used on a land-line) can be used to make and receive VoIP calls.

The Zoom ADSL X6v is an ADSL modem/router with a VoIP ATA built into it. The "v" in the "X6v" model stands for "voice" and should not be confused with the Zoom ADSL X6 DSL modem/router which does not have a built-in ATA.
